"BEFORE DUSK " (2022)

In the work “Before Dusk” I seek to shed light on the houses that resist the process of verticalization of cities.  Based on reports I read and heard from residents of different neighborhoods in São Paulo, I found myself touched by the stories of people who witnessed a radical transformation of their surroundings. Entire blocks were destroyed and left few (and uncomfortable) possibilities for those who stayed there. Inhabitants who, in an effort to preserve their settings (and the memories and affections contained therein), were literally left in the shadow of everything that came their way. For them, not even the light of the day remains the same. “Before, it was sunny here. It is not anymore.”, said one of the reports.  In this context, I propose in this video art a play on words that takes us to the experience of witnessing a change in our surroundings and, consequently, a change in our own relationship with it.  Words from an imagined everyday situation are gradually replaced by grayish blocks.  In the end, an isolated word resists. Despite everything, something still remains.
