DREAM WALL (2023)

“The house shelters daydreaming, it protects the dreamer.”— Gaston Bachelard

Within the universe of home, we nurture plans, projects, and dreams. Reflecting on this relationship between space and imagination, during my residency at ACHO I adopted a series of real estate photographs from the 1970s and 1980s that had been discarded in the trash. All of the images shared a common element: the façade of a street house, captured frontally and with geometric precision. Some carried handwritten notes on their reverse sides, describing the “product” — monetary values and sales attributes.

I selected six of these photographs — the six that, in some way, invited me to step inside — and, through open calls on social media, flyers, and posters displayed in public spaces, I invited people to look at these houses. Through a simple and anonymous questionnaire, participants were asked to choose just one: the house that might once have sheltered an old dream.

In this way, I sought to let these images once again inhabit the realm of dreams — to shelter old, and perhaps new, reveries.

Among dozens and dozens of dreams received, I present in this group exhibition the installation Dream Wall, which gives form to some of them.
